Our story so far…
Hi everyone, we’re Fuji and Benji!
We arrived at the sanctuary separately but over the past few months have formed a lovely bond and are the best of frenemies, erm we mean friends haha! We do love each other lots and are like brothers, we really were meant to be together! However, we also plan each other’s demise on a daily basis, which usually consists of 27½ play fights a day (the half being a sleepy one just after a nap!)
I (Fuji) was brought to the sanctuary when I was found stray outside, I was only a few months old. I (Benji) was taken in from a home. Unfortunately, when I was only 3 weeks old, my owner asked their friend to look after me, and sadly never came back for me! Thankfully, I was with a lovely family who raised me into a beautiful healthy boy, but they weren’t able to keep me longterm.
It was clear that we were both missing the company of another young cat to play with and learn from. I (Benji) had been an only cat since I was 3 weeks old, which was evident in my behaviour, the humans don’t know my (Fuji’s) story, but I showed all of the same frustration behaviours as Benji. We would be quite rough with the humans, biting them and jumping up at hands. Our carer knew that we both needed the company of a cat similar to us, and we really were the perfect match! We have the same energy level and both love to rough play with each other. Our carer says that she doesn’t think many other cats would be okay with how we play with each other, but we both love attacking each other and that’s all that matters.
I (Benji) am a sweet, cuddly boy who loves to be picked up and carried like a baby. My brother Fuji is a bit more independent, he does still like fuss, attention and the occasional pick up, but will grumble at the humans if he wants to be left alone. He isn’t nasty but does make some strange noises, which I don’t think I’ve ever made in my whole life! I don’t even know how to growl!
Home we are looking for…
We are on the search for a forever home, and of course we must stay together. We are now the best of friends and could never be split up! That, and the fact that we both really benefit from having a kitty friend to roll around and un around with, and apparently other cats wouldn’t appreciate us.
We could live with older children who are aged 8+, but would prefer not to live with younger children. We also think it would be best if we were the only pets in the home too. I would be happy to live with cats and dogs, as i just want to be friends with everyone, but my brother Fuji is a bit of a grump and isn’t keen on most other cats, he is also scared of dogs.
We could live happily as indoor only cats, as long as our adopters make sure they provide us with lots of stimulation, such as toys, puzzle feeders and cat furniture. We could also have access to outdoors, whether this is freely or in a secure catio or cat-proofed garden. If we will be going outside freely in our new home, we will need to be kept solely indoors for at least 4 months while we settle in. This is a little longer than is usually advised for adult cats, however as we have been living here since we were young (around 5/6 months), it would be best to keep us inside for a little longer to give us chance to adapt to our new home and to get to know our humans.
Medical history…
I (Fuji) have a heart murmur which was picked up at a recent vet visit. It hadn’t been picked up during any of my vet visits prior to this, so it was decided that I have a heart scan to check whether my heart was working okay, and whether there were any major issues. Thankfully, the vet said that my heart is working as it should at the moment, she saw no concerns and said I don’t any medications at the moment. My heart murmur is around a grade 3. The vet has advised the best plan would be for me to have a yearly heart scan to check my heart and pick up on any changes.
Between us, we have had veterinary treatment for a few other mild medical issues. Our carer will be happy to give more information on this to anyone who may be interested in adopting us.
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
