My story so far…
Hey everyone, my name is Gordie.
I came to the sanctuary after waiting a while for a rescue space. There are currently lots of cats just like me, who are living stray outside and waiting desperately for a rescue to have space to take them in. I was one of the lucky ones as I found myself in a kind lady’s garden. She fed me and looked after me, but sadly couldn’t keep me as she had other cats, although she promised me that she would keep me safe and warm until she found somewhere for me to go, and she did!
When I arrived at the sanctuary, I had quite matted and greasy fur. I allowed my feeder to give me fuss but not too much, and then when I came here, I had to start all over again! At first, I was very scared so my carer just gave me time to settle. Each day, the humans would interact with me a little bit more, gently and quietly cleaning my pen and talking to me. Before we knew it, I was chatting away to them and enjoying a fuss, it really didn’t take me long at all with a bit of time, love and patience. Once I was comfortable with fuss, my carers began brushing my fur for a short time each day and eventually I was knot free! I had my vaccinations and was booked in to be neutered.
Now I have settled and have gotten to know my carers, I make sure to ask for attention and food whenever they are near! I’m a chatty boy so you won’t forget I am around, and I’ll make sure you don’t forget to feed me! I can still be wary around new people and need a bit of time to get to know them. So, if you come to meet me, please do spend a bit of time trying to make friends with me and go at my pace, I don’t like to be rushed but I’ll let you know once I feel comfortable around you. I am also very food motivated, which definitely helps when trying to make friends!
Home I am looking for…
As I can be a little timid and wary initially, I would much prefer a quieter home with no young children. I would happily live with adults or calm older children 12+ who will give me space while I settle in and be patient with me while I get to know them. I may be quite timid initially so need to find humans who will be understanding and get to know me too. Once I trust you, I will soon be your little best friend and want lots of cuddles and head bumps!
I have met some other cats here at the sanctuary and I can be a little worried and hissy around them. Perhaps being an unneutered stray male, I may have had some not so great experiences with other cats while I was living outside. For this reason, I could potentially live with an older, calm cat who will respect my space and not be too much for me, but I would be more then happy to be the only cat in the home and get all the attention to myself. I am scared of dogs so would prefer not to live with them please.
As I am used to being outside and able to explore, I would like access to outdoors once I am settled in. I would however need to be kept indoors for at least 8 weeks while I get to know you and my new home (potentially longer if needed), and then be gradually introduced to outdoors once I am ready.
Medical history…
I am a heathy boy with no known health issues, but due to being a stray and living outside, I needed a bit of TLC when I arrived. Although once I was comfortable with it, the humans kept on top of brushing me and keeping my fur in good condition, my carer noticed that I didn’t really groom myself as much as other cats usually do, and the greasiness in my fur remained. She discussed this with the vet as she was worried I may have dental pain or an underlying health condition. When I was under anaesthetic to be neutered, the vet had a thorough check of my teeth- these looked okay and I didn’t need any major dental work done thankfully, but they did give them a clean so they are now all sparkly! I also had full bloods done to check for any health concerns, but the results for these came back clear, which was good.
Now health conditions had been ruled out, my carer decided to try me on salmon oil added to my food each day and this has really helped with the condition of my coat. The humans do also give my coat a brush every day or every other day, just to make sure I always look as handsome as ever! If I’m honest, I think I’m just a bit lazy and now I have discovered that humans are there to give me everything I need, I decided that they can also be my personal barbers haha!
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
