My story so far…
Hi everyone, I’m Roastie!
I came to the sanctuary with my younger brothers and sisters- they will be looking for homes very soon! We came from a home but our owner could no longer care for us, they didn’t agree with neutering and sadly bred our mommy cat multiple times. I was from her litter in January 2025, the rest of my litter found homes, and then she had another litter just a few months later! It is very lucky that we didn’t start breeding with each other as they could have ended up with lots and lots of kittens.
Our mommy cat was a Sphynx cross, she was hairless but had curly ears like me so my carers assume that she must have had some American Curl in her genes too. Our dad was a domestic shorthair (moggy), so this is my main breed, with a mixture of the other two in my DNA. Obviously I don’t look as though I have any Sphynx in me and look like a domestic shorthair with curled ears! I am very cute though, look at me!
We weren’t in very good condition when we arrived here. We were infested with fleas and had big bellies which showed we probably were full of nasty worms too. Thankfully, we have now had all of our vet work done and are now receiving all the care we deserve.
I am a very friendly boy who really, really loves humans! I love to be cuddled, picked up and sitting on laps. Anything that involves a human giving me love and attention I love! I can be quite vocal and like to have chats with the humans too. I can be playful when I’m in the mood, but most of all I just want fuss and cuddles. I have so much love to give to anyone who will accept it.
Home I am looking for…
As I am such a friendly boy, I would be fine to live with children and lived with young children in my last home too. I would like to live in a home with multiple people so I can get as many cuddles as possible!
Unfortunately, whilst here at the sanctuary, I have become quite stressed around the other cats. My carer thinks that this is likely because I have only very recently been neutered, so my hormone levels are still very high. I do seem okay with cats sometimes, like when they come to see me when I’m in my room, but if I am out of my own pen then I get quite stressed and angry towards the other cats while they are in their own pens for some reason. I have lived with lots of cats in the past though, but maybe I liked them as we were related and I just don’t like anyone else? Who knows, all I know is that the other cats here annoy me and make me sad! Due to this, I have been moved to my own room here at the sanctuary. I can still see the other cats but I seem a lot happier and there is enough space for the humans to come in and spend time with me. I also have my very own armchair to sleep on and it’s perfect for the servants, I mean humans, to sit on when I want a lap cuddle or lap nap!
I have met a dog here at the sanctuary and I thought she was lovely! I gave her some kisses and was very intrigued by her, so although I would prefer to be the only cat in the home, I think I would actually quite like a doggy friend. As long as they like cats of course.
I have never been outside and am looking for an indoor only home, so it is important that my new humans understand the importance of ensuring I have enough enrichment such as toys, cat furniture, puzzle feeders etc to keep my brain occupied and me entertained. My carer is happy to discuss this further with anyone if they have questions about this.
If you can give me the home I need, please send my carer an enquiry form and tell us why you would be the best home for me! I may get lots of forms, so include as much detail as you can and explain why you’d be the right family for me.
Anyway, enjoy these lovely pictures of me below. My carer calls me cheeky, I never know why!
Medical history…
I am a happy, healthy boy with no known health concerns currently. I am on a calming supplement daily but that is because I was getting stressed here and getting grumpy towards the other cats. My carer advises to continue this in my new home while I settle in, but I can hopefully be weaned off it after a couple of months.
Due to my curled ears, my carers believe that I have some American Curl in my genetics, as do my siblings. It is also known that our mom was a Sphynx. As I am not hairless and do in fact have fur, I should not be affected by the usual skin issues that Sphynx cats can be prone to, however due to my curled ears, there is a slight chance that I may develop ear problems in the future. American Curl cats can be prone to cartilage-related ear issues which could mean I may be more susceptible to cartilage damage (due to weak cartilage) and ear infections. American Curls can sometimes develop joint issues due to weak cartilage, so my carer thinks that raised bowls for my food and water would be a good idea so that I don’t have to bend down as much to eat and drink, and will hopefully help prevent any neck issues when I get older.
My carer advises that anyone interested in adopting me does some research into American Curl and Sphynx cats, just to familiarise themselves with any health issues that I could potentially develop in the future due to my genetics. As mentioned, I am a healthy boy at the moment but it is always good to know the signs and symptoms to look out for.
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
