My story so far…

I came into the sanctuary when my owners left me with a nice family that looked after me while they were on holiday, but sadly my owners never came back for me…

I have been rehomed a few times since I cam to the Sanctuary but have been returned every time for different reasons. Therefore my next home must be the perfect one so I don’t have to worry about being left again.

I form really strong loving relationships with the people I make friends with but because I have had a few homes now I can struggle making friends intially as I am frustrated and don’t trust you until you take the time to show me that I can. My carers say for someone willing to take the chance on me I would be their once in a lifetime dogs as I’m such an intelligent, sweet and funny boy!

Home I am looking for…

I need a Adult only home where I could really connect with my new adopter so there needs to be only 1-2 people in the home day-to-day. I do have some insecure beahviours when there are multiple people so living in a home with multiple people about or regular visitors has not proved best for me.

Once you are my friend and I feel safe with you I am one of the most loving dogs and just love having a cuddle with you! I can be quite sensitive to how you are feeling as I love my people so much I listen in to every tiny cue you show. Sometimes because I am so intelligent and sensitive I can get a bit overstimulated and silly when I get excited. My carers say I have gotten much better but I still can mouth & jump up quite a bit when I feel like this but I am quickly distracted with snacks and I am continuing to improve. Becasue of this I do need to be muzzled when out in public as picking up on everything going on can be a bit overwhelming at times and I can find strangers really worrying, so I need an owner who would be willing to muzzle me and follow training & management shown to them by my carers to help me.

I need regular 2x daily excercise, with walks where I can sniff away are my favourite!! My carers have done lots of work with me over the years as at one point I got quickly overstimulated when out and about, now I am doing so much better but I still can get overstimulated and need to wear my muzzle whenever I am on a walk. I sometimes prefer going out at quieter walking times so it is not too stressful for me but my carers have taken me out while it has been busier and as long as I am given space and my handler is listening to me, I now manage quite well! I really love going on adventures and trips out and just being with my favourite people!

In the home I would not be able to be around any visiting children at all, due to my history and behaviours. I have bitten before over food, and handling that worried me, and without effective management and consistency I could potentially bite again.
While I say a happy hello to some dogs out on walks, unfortunately I could not live with one as my resource guarding has proved too much in previous homes. I could not yet live with cats or small animals however potentially in the future, if a lot of work has been done with my behaviour, a feline friend may be okay. I love the cats here at the sanctuary, and have been very well mannered with them. I have also lived with a cat previously.
I don’t mind being left and often will just sleep, so after my walk and with some toys/ enrichment to keep me busy I could be left up to 4 hours a day.

Behaviour & Training

My carers will work with any adopters to help them buiild a relationship with me and learn all the training and management they’ve put in place to help me. Any adopters must be willing to come up reguarly for as long as it takes as this is something that can’t be rushed.

I love to please and training is great fun for me, although I can struggle to focus if I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. When training I need lots of little breaks so I don’t get too frustrated as this is when I can feel overwhelmed and I start mouthing and getting a bit silly as I’m not sure what to do.

In the past I have bitten when I have been worried by or guarding something but my carers say I have grown a lot in confidence since then! My carer will work with anyone interested in adopting my and show them the management tools in place to prevent this from happening again as I really am a good boy just trying my best after not having the best start.

I am fully muzzle trained and need to wear my muzzle all of the time when out of the home (on my walks, at the vets etc.) This is the best choice as it makes sure myself and others are kept safe! I am really good at wearing my muzzle and my carers do regulart postive reinforcement games around the muzzle to make sure I am happy with it, something my adopters will need to continue in the home.

I can still struggle when I get overstimulated and sometimes make the wrong choice and start mouthing or jumping up at you but I am quickly distracted and with the training my carers have been doing it may take me a couple of moments but I am able normally able to calm down with their help and they will show any adopters what to do so they can help me too.

Medical History…

I do have a sensitive tummy and I can be a bit fussy about my food but my carer has found that AVA Sensitive Skin & Stomach dry food works very well for me so I must be kept on this in a home too.

Each year around springtime I have seasonal alopecia along my sides, this does not affect me in any other way and is normally only two small patches that grow back in a month or two.

Things to Note…

Any prospective owners would need to be willing to come to the sanctuary a lot and get to know me. It is likely you would have to sit outside of the kennel and ask me to do commands to begin a bond with me, a long while before you could be in a room with me.

I will need to be muzzled in public so prospective adopters must be willing to agree to this.

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
