My story so far…
Hello! My name is Birdie.
I arrived at the sanctuary in May after being rescued from a small colony of stray and feral cats. I had lived outdoors all my life and had already raised at least two litters of kittens before I was trapped and brought to safety. I was so lucky to be rescued when I was — just days after arriving, I became very unwell. It turned out I had pyometra, a serious and life-threatening infection of the uterus in unspayed female cats. Without urgent treatment, I wouldn’t be here today. I’m truly one of the lucky ones (see medical history).
At first, I was very frightened, everything was strange and new. But my rescuer and carer could see that I wasn’t truly feral, just scared and unsure. They believed I had the potential to learn to trust humans… and they were right!
In just under four months, I’ve made huge progress. I’ve gained confidence, learned that people can be kind, and even started enjoying gentle fusses — especially if there’s food involved. I still get startled by loud noises or sudden movements, but my pen is my safe haven. I’ll dash in there for a moment, then curiosity wins and I’m right back out to see what’s going on.
I love watching the other cats interact with humans, and I’ve even made a friend here called Oak. Unfortunately, Oak sometimes gets a little fed up with how much affection I want! I’d really like to find a feline friend who will enjoy my company, play with me, and snuggle up for naps.
I’ve come so far in such a short time, and my carers are confident I’ll continue to blossom in a loving home with patient, understanding humans. If you’re looking for a sweet, curious, and affectionate girl who just needs a little time to settle, could I be the one for you?
Home I am looking for…
I need a calm, quiet home with patient humans that understand it will take me time to settle and feel comfortable in a home environment. I would prefer not to live in a home with more than two humans as a busy household would be a bit much for me.
I could live with a sensible child 13+ years old but no young children.
I MUST go to a home where there is at least one other cat friendly cat for company. I would enjoy living in a friendly mutli cat household! I need a young cat friend that will enjoy my company and want to interact/play with me and even snuggle up!
Cats in the home must be up to date with vaccinations and must be neutered. Proof will be required.
I would not enjoy living with a dog.
My ideal home would be a safe indoor home with a catio or cat proofed garden I can go outside in safely although this is not essential. I can be homed as an indoor cat with sufficient space, lots of enrichment and other feline company! I could possibly have safe outdoor access in the future but must remain indoors for at least 6 months. Must be in a very very quiet area not on or near any busy/main/fast roads or railway lines.
Home and Road/environmental checks apply.
(Applicants will ONLY be contacted if you are a suitable match. Please be aware we complete our rehoming checks prior to arranging any meets)
Diet…
I am fed both wet and dry food- Scrumbles dry and a mix of wet foods- whiskas, blink, applaws, sheba
I need to continue on a good quality diet.
Medical history…
When I arrived at the sanctuary I was quite poorly and it was soon found that I had a pyometra- a serious uterine infection in unspayed female cats. I was spayed and given antibiotics to treat the infection and strtaed to get better over the course of a few weeks.
I am now a healthy young girl with no current heath concerns.
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
