My story so far…
My name is Charlie, and I arrived at the sanctuary back in January this year. I had been living as a stray, taking shelter in a kind lady’s garden. I wasn’t microchipped or neutered and sadly, I wasn’t in the best of health, so it didn’t appear that I had an owner looking out for me. Regardless of where I had come from, it was clear that I needed some help.
I was quite worried about the big wide world and spent lots of time hidden away in my little shelter, where I felt safe. The kind lady who had been looking out for me got me some help from the sanctuary, as I was showing signs of cat flu and needed veterinary care.
When I first arrived, I wasn’t eating very well either. In fact, the only thing I would eat was chicken! Thankfully, after treatment for my cat flu, I gradually started to feel much better. I was a little timid at first, but it didn’t take me long to realise I was safe and had some lovely humans looking after me.
Before long, I ventured out of my hidey bed to explore my new surroundings and quickly showed that I’m a very affectionate boy who absolutely loves his humans and has plenty of love to give.
Over the past six months, I’ve been through quite a lot. I’ve had cat flu, struggled with stress, had some skin problems and, sadly, needed to have my tail amputated. Despite everything, I’ve remained the sweetest boy who just wants to be loved and enjoy spending time with people.
My main carer describes me as the sweetest boy with so much love to give, and I think she might be right! I love a good lap cuddle and, when I’m in the mood, I enjoy being picked up for cuddles too. I also love giving kisses to my favourite humans and, if you’re lucky, I might even give you a little wash!
I enjoy playing with my toys, but I’m equally happy having a good chill and watching the world go by. I used to be quite worried about looking out of the window because of those big, loud and very scary dogs outside, but I’ve finally found my bravery and now enjoy watching what’s happening outside.
I can be quite vocal when I want some attention, or when I think I’ve waited quite long enough for my dinner, thank you very much! Apparently, I have the cutest little meow, too.
After everything I’ve been through, I’m now looking forward to finding my very own special home where I can continue to feel safe, loved and settled. I have so much love to give and would really love a human/s who will appreciate all the affection I have to offer.
Home I am looking for…
I could live with sensible children over 6 who are kind and gentle with cats.
I have spent time around a few other calm cats and regularly hang out with Daisie-May. We are pen neighbours and get to spend time together in the cat kitchen. Most of the time, we happily do our own thing, chilling, playing independently or just enjoying each other’s company. Every now and then, though, I get a little burst of playful energy, especially when I see Daisie-May playing! She does tell me off sometimes, but I’m only trying to join in!
I think I could happily share my home with another confident, playful cat who wouldn’t mind the occasional playful pounce, but who is also happy to give me space when I want it. I am also perfectly happy doing my own thing, so I could be just as happy as the only cat in my home.
Dogs are a bit scary for me, so I would be happiest in a home without any please!
I’d also love a home with safe outdoor access. I think I’d really enjoy having a garden to explore, find sunny spots to snooze in and generally potter about in! This could be free outdoor access, a secure catio or a cat-proofed garden. I’ll need to stay indoors for at least 8 weeks while I settle into my new home before I’m introduced to the great outdoors.
If you think you could be the special home I’ve been waiting for and can meet my rehoming requirements, I would love for you to complete an adoption form. I’m ready to find my people and start the next chapter of my life!
Foster to Adopt Me
Charlie has experienced a few flare-ups of a skin condition which started at the sanctuary. We feel these may be linked to stress or seasonal changes, and we are hopeful that he may not have any ongoing issues once he is settled into a loving home, although we can’t be certain of this at this stage. Charlie has recently had another flare-up and has been given a long-lasting steroid injection to help settle it.
Because of this, we would ideally like Charlie to go to his new home on a foster-to-adopt basis. This will give him the opportunity to settle into a home environment while allowing us to monitor how his skin responds. We will continue to support his fosterers throughout and provide any advice or guidance needed, so they won’t be on their own with this.
Diet…
I am a proper foodie and love my food and treats but I am fussy with wet food. I dont enjoy jelly, gravy or fishy foods but I do like meaty broth cat food. I am on chicken in broth tins (applaws, encore, thrive, scrumbles) and scrumbles adult dry food.
Medical history…
I had cat flu when I first arrived at the sanctuary, which I was treated for and thankfully recovered from.
I have also had a dental during my time here.
Earlier this year, I started to develop some skin sores and areas of hair loss (alopecia), which we believe were linked to stress and overgrooming. I have needed steroid treatment on and off, which has been effective in managing the flare-ups. My carers feel that I may be less affected once I’m settled into a calm home environment. I currently have Gabapentin and Zylkene to help manage any stress that could be contributing to my skin problems.
My tail was suspected to have been injured through trauma before I arrived at the sanctuary. I was dragging it and wasn’t lifting it properly, and after several vet visits it became clear that I had lost feeling in most of my tail. To prevent the risk of a tail-pull injury, it was decided that removing it was in my best interests. I am now left with a little stumpy tail, which doesn’t stop me from being my lovely, happy self!
Despite everything I’ve been through, I am a healthy and happy boy. Please dont let my previous and current health issues put you off me! My carer will be very happy to talk through my health and medical history in more detail with anyone who is interested in giving me a home, so you’ll have all the information you need

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
