Our story so far…

Hi there! Please give us a chance and read about us….We are Felis and Nova two bonded friends who came to the sanctuary earlier this year after being rescued from a colony of stray and feral cats living on a dangerous waste disposal site. It was a scary and toxic place to live with noisy machines, horrible smells, and nowhere safe to rest. Luckily, a kind lady who worked there was looking out for us. When the sanctuary offered space, she made sure we were both safely trapped and brought here to start a new life.

People think we might be related because we were always seen together. We don’t really remember how we ended up there or how long we’d been surviving like that, but we’ve always stuck by each other’s side. Having one another makes everything a little less frightening.

When we first arrived, we were both very nervous. Everything was new. The smells, the sounds, and the people trying to care for us. We spent most of our time hiding away (especially me, Nova) and wanted nothing to do with the humans. After we were both neutered, we were reunited again, and that helped us feel much more at ease. Being together always makes us braver.

At first, our carers weren’t sure whether we were simply scared or if we’d ever learn to trust people. Over time, it became clear that while we’re used to being around humans (and do trust them for food), we’re not socialised enough to enjoy or accept physical touch. We’ll happily approach our carers for meals and treats, but we don’t seek out or welcome stroking or handling.

Our carer describes us sort of like inbetweener cats, although we have adapted to living at the sanctuary well so unlike inbetweener cats our carer feels we could thrive in the right home environment. Whilst we are not completely feral, we are not fully tame either and we form quiet bonds with our caregivers but prefer not to be handled. We’re content in the presence of people, especially when food is involved, but value our personal space.

We are hoping to find a special foster home where we can live safely and peacefully somewhere with kind humans who understand that love doesn’t always have to include cuddles. With patience, good food, and gentle care, we’ll happily share our space (and our hearts) with someone who accepts us just as we are.

Home we are looking for/health…

We are looking for a long term foster home together due to Felis health so we can enjoy the comforts of a home together with caregivers that will be in close contact with the sanctuary and our main carer (Nova will be available to adopt in the future but for now needs to stay with Felis).

We need a quiet, calm home with no children (including visiting ones). We could happily share our space with another gentle, cat-friendly cat or two, but no dogs please. We prefer a peaceful life!

Our foster carers will have experience with cats, a lot of patience, and plenty of understanding. You will be providing us with love and safety while the sanctuary continues to support you every step of the way. They will provide everything we need- food, flea and worm treatment, cover any vet costs, and help with appointments or advice whenever needed. Fosterers will need to be in close distance to the sanctuary/Redditch.

We need to be kept as indoor cats due to our temperament and Felis’ health. We would need our own room set up in the home so we can settle in one space and eventually be allowed access to areas of the home with our room left open for us to retreat too at all times. We could have access to a secured catio.

Felis Health information

Hi, I’m Felis. I’m estimated to be around 10 years old, so quite a bit older than Nova, and I have a chronic lung condition which is most likely caused by the pollution and harsh conditions at the waste site I came from. Back in August the vet found calcium nodules on my lungs and raised calcium levels in my blood. It sounded quite worrying at first, but after treatment and regular monitoring, my prognosis is much more positive now!

I received a long-lasting steroid injection back in August, and even after it wore off, I showed no signs of illness. My latest check-up, with scans, bloods, and X-rays, showed that while I do have some permanent lung damage, it hasn’t worsened, and my calcium levels are improved. Although the vet cannot be sure, they dont believe I have any malignant tumours which is good news. I’ve even gained a little weight and am doing well.

Because of my condition, I’ll need to be monitored over time, as my lungs will slowly deteriorate. Signs to look out for include shallow or rapid breathing, coughing, tiredness, or weight loss. For now, though, I’m doing really well and enjoying good food, naps, play, and the company of my best friend, Nova.

If you think you could offer us the home we need, please fill out an Enquiry Form or send an email. Please make sure you have read about all of our needs before applying.

Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
