Indoor-only or outdoor access? We feel that Lucky would be happier if she had the option of going outside. She may not go very far but we feel she would enjoy having her own garden to lounge around in when she pleases. We do feel that her son Neko will choose to stay as an indoor cat, but if he has the option then he can decide this for himself. So, we are looking for a home (whether for Lucky on her own or with Neko) where there is the option of going outside, but are also looking for adopters who don’t mind if they decide to be indoor cats.
They will need to be kept strictly indoors for at least 8 weeks while settling into their new home.
My story so far…
Hi, my name is Lucky. I arrived at the sanctuary with my son (grown up man child!) Neko! Honestly, he’s huge!
Sadly, we have been through a lot and it was quite a traumatic period of our lives before we arrived here at the sanctuary. It has taken us both a while to decompress and settle back into a life of happiness and calmness. It has especially taken Neko a long while, but I have been here to support him and so have our carers.
Our human mommy passed away last year so we were taken in by her daughter while she tried to find rescue space for us. As there are so many cats at the moment needing help from rescues, it took a long time for rescue space to come up. We were on the sanctuary’s waiting list for months before they were finally able to take us in. Unfortunately, we were very stressed in the temporary home. There were young children who we were scared of, so ended up living in just the one room. The humans didn’t have much time for us so we essentially were just fed and didn’t receive the care that we desperately needed. We also needed veterinary treatment but the humans couldn’t afford this, Neko especially was a very poorly boy when we arrived at the sanctuary.
As we were in a home and looked after, the sanctuary team thought that we were safe and cared for while waiting for space, but sadly this wasn’t the case. Although our family were trying their best, they just didn’t have the time or resources to give us what we needed.
When we arrived at the sanctuary, we were quickly booked into the vets as we were both extremely skinny, Neko was quite literally skin and bone, we were covered in scabs and had a lot of hair loss. We were placed on steroids, which really helped. Our fur quickly started growing back and in turn our skin cleared up nicely. I was only in steroids for a short time, but Neko had to be on them a while longer as his condition was a lot worse and he struggled to put on weight.
Thankfully, after a few months, we are both now completely healed and doing really well. In fact, my carer has recently had to put me on a diet as she said I was looking a little plump- rude!
We are both such friendly cats who love cuddles, fuss and attention. Sometimes, my man child does push me out the way for a fuss, but don’t worry I do tell him off when needed!
I do like my own space too, so sometimes like to have a bit of quiet alone time. I do love a lap cuddle when I’m in the mood though and will wait around staring at you until you sit down so I can hop up for a cuddle and nap. I can be a tiny bit grumpy if you annoy me, but this is usually if my carer is messing with me too much, like when she checks me over or trims my claws. It’s just annoying really and I wish she would leave me alone, so obviously I tell her, but I promise I am gentle.
Home I am looking for…
We would love if Neko and I can find a home together! I mean he does get on my nerves sometimes, but I do love him and we’ve always been together. It would be strange doing life without him. However, if nobody wants to adopt both of us together, then we could be adopted separately. Our carer is really hoping we can find a home together though!
We are looking for a nice quiet home, where there are no young children and we can have get all the attention and love that we want.
We would prefer not to live with other cats as we aren’t too keen on them, although we have met some friendly dogs here at the sanctuary and are actually pretty chilled around them. I am just completely unbothered by them, and will happily be very close to them. Neko is a tiny bit more wary but as with everything, he follows my lead and still seems comfortable to be around them. So, we could happily live with a calm, friendly dog who has lived with cats before or is very used to them. We would not want to live with a very lively, boisterous dog though, as this would upset us.
We would live happily as mainly indoor cats, but I personally would prefer to have a garden to sunbathe and snooze in as I have done in the past. As Neko is a bit of a big baby (literally) and can be spooked easily, I think he will prefer to stay indoors. Basically, I think we would like to have the choice, to either stay indoors all or most of the time, but also have the option of going outside for a little wander if we want to. We will need to be kept indoors for at least 8 weeks while we settle into our new home and get to know our new humans.
After everything we have been through over the past year, we are just hoping to find a calm, loving home with humans who will give us the care and attention that we need. Hopefully, this can be together. Paws crossed!
Medical history…
I am a healthy older girl with no current health issues. Due to my age, I did have senior blood checks done at the vets, but the results came back all normal.
When we arrived, we were not in great condition. We were very scabby and had a lot of fur loss, most likely due to stress and fleas too. I had a short course of steroids which cleared it right up, the scabs all healed and my fur grew back quickly.
If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
