My story so far…

Hello, I’m Oak!

I arrived at the sanctuary in May this year after being caught sneaking into one of the carers’ homes to pinch her cats’ food! I’d been hanging around for a while and was also seen getting into scraps with an unneutered male. I wasn’t chipped or neutered myself and was thought to be a stray. I also had an injury to my right eye, which sadly couldn’t be saved, so it had to be removed while I was here.

I’m a friendly, loving boy who really enjoys attention and affection. I’ve got a playful side too and can be quite curious—especially if treats are involved! I do like a bit of quiet time as well though, as I’m quite an independent lad who enjoys relaxing in peace. I’m also pretty confident and sociable with new people.

I’ve adapted well to life with one eye. My carers say I occasionally get startled if something moves suddenly on my blind side, and my depth perception isn’t perfect—but I’m doing great overall. I’ve got a good routine here, but what I’d really love is a comfy home of my own and some lovely humans to share it with.

Home I am looking for…

I would be happy living with sensible older children aged 10+

I do well with calm, gentle cats and usually just ignore them aside from a quick ‘kiss’ hello. I might get along with another friendly, relaxed cat, but I wouldn’t do well with a playful, boisterous one. I’m also perfectly happy being the only cat.

I could possibly live with a very calm, cat-friendly dog.

If you have existing pets, proof of neutering and vaccinations will be required where appropriate.

Because I’m partially sighted, I’m looking for a spacious, indoor-only home. Although I used to be a stray and lived outdoors, I’ve adapted really well at the sanctuary. I’d need plenty of room inside and wouldn’t be suited to a small home. Ideally, my new home would have a secure catio or a fully cat-proofed garden so I can enjoy some safe outdoor time.

Home and environment checks will apply.

(Applicants will ONLY be contacted if you are a suitable match. Please be aware we complete our rehoming checks prior to arranging any meets)

Medical history…

I had my right eye removed because of an abnormality or previous trauma to the eye. It wasn’t working properly, and I had very limited vision. The vets also found early signs of glaucoma, and there was a high risk it could develop into something more serious like sarcoma. So, it was best for my health to have it removed. Thankfully, the test results came back all clear, and I’m doing really well now—one eye doesn’t slow me down at all!

While I’ve been at the sanctuary, I developed a sore, swollen chin. It didn’t improve on its own, so the vets gave me a course of steroids, which helped a lot. It could be a common skin condition, possibly linked to an allergy, so I’m starting a hypoallergenic diet just in case food is the cause. My carers also clean my chin gently and feed me from a ceramic bowl to help prevent flare-ups. I may need treatment again in the future, but it’s all manageable.

I also have a bit of mild gingivitis, which is very common in cats. My teeth are in great condition right now and I don’t need any dental work yet—but I might as I get older. A little home dental care can go a long way!

Even though it might sound like I’ve had a lot going on, I’m actually a strong, healthy cat who’s feeling great and ready for my next adventure so do give me a chance!

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.

Forms lacking in detail or with questions unanswered may not be considered, we need to ensure we are matching our cats to the right home for them.
