My story so far…

I came into the sanctuary when my owners could no longer manage with my behavioural issues. They tried very hard but unfortunately it just became too much. I have been rehomed from the sanctuary once before, but unfortunately I had to be returned because my behavioural issues got worse. The majority of the time I am such a good boy here at the sanctuary, so my carers want to try to find my perfect (and very specific) forever home once more.

I am very high energy and love to run around and play - my carers say I could go all day - this is not an exaggeration! I definitely would be on the move all day if I could be!

Home I am looking for…

I would suit an adult only home with no resident or visiting children at all. Although I can be a little nervous to start with, I would be fine in a home where there were visiting adults that know my boundaries. I really am quite a friendly boy when I am familiar with you.
I could potentially live with another confident, playful dog, pending successful dog meets here at the sanctuary. My carers think that having another dog in the home might help me when I am starting to feel anxious or threatened. I can also be adopted with my friend Timmy here at the Sanctuary. You can find more information on Timmy on our website.

I could not live with cats or small animals due to my prey drive.
I don’t mind being left and often will just sleep, so I could be left up to 4 hours a day once I am settled. I would like someone around for the majority of the day due to my behavioural issues. Please note it is likely to take me up to 6 weeks, if not longer to settle in your home, and before I am settled I will bark excessively - so no one with thin walls/ceilings or angry neighbours please, haha! I may need to be on anxiety medication or sedatives in order to help me settle in for the first few weeks to months, but this is something that would need to be discussed with the vet once I am home.

Behaviour & Training

I require lots of long walks on a daily basis, so someone that loves to hike or trail would be brilliant for me. I really would walk and run all day long if I could. I can be a little vocal whilst out & about - but it is just because I am so excited to be out! If my energy is channelled in the correct way, my carers think I would really enjoy agility and man trailing.

I have bitten before, so need experienced owners that are happy to work towards managing any behaviours that need some work or issues that we encounter in the home. My main trigger seems to be when people are trying (or I think that they are) to move me. My carers say in the right home that this should be relatively easily avoidable/manageable. A home with multiple exits to the rooms I have access to would be preferable. A spacious home would mean it would be easier to give me the space I require when I don’t want to move. Someone around the majority of the day would be good so that I can choose when I want to get up to go to the toilet & when I want to eat.

Any adopters must be willing and financially prepared to work with a behaviourist if they feel like they are struggling when I am home.

I would need to wear a muzzle for veterinary procedures. I have always been really good - but the muzzle is just as much for my own safety as it is for other peoples.

Medical History…

I have had lots of veterinary investigation & treatment throughout my life so far.

I have previously had issues with my ears being infected but since being at the sanctuary I have had no issues. If I ever had to have ear drops again then I would need to be muzzled whilst this was done.

I have had ongoing issues with my eating habits and have had the following veterinary investigation:

  • Blood tests, all of which came back clear

  • An abdominal ultrasound, which showed potential slight inflammation

  • A 12 week+ trial on Reconcile, an anti-anxiety medication which unfortunately did not improve eating habits or anxiety

  • A gut biopsy and endoscopy which showed Lymphoplasmacytic Gastritis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease

I am also fed on a hypoallergenic diet & daily probiotic which must be continued in the home. This can prove to be expensive so any prospective owners must be prepared for this. I have had quite a sensitive tummy in the past, so would need consistency with my diet and future owners must be willing to keep me on the food that my carers have found works for me.

I am currently being treated with steroids for my IBD so any prospective owners would need to be prepared to wait until my treatment has finished to take me home.

I did have to go on urinary food for a while in my previous home, but this was able to be stopped after the issues improved.

Things to Note…

I would need someone available to come to the sanctuary a lot before I was able to go to a new home, in order to bond with my new owners.

I am quite underweight due to being picky with my food and eating habits. My carers are working hard to find something that works for me.

I need regular brushing to keep my skin & coat looking healthy. I need regular clipping to keep my coat short & tidy and managable.

My triggers…

  • My collar being grabbed (to keep me still or to move me).

  • Being told what to do (particularly being told to move).

  • People getting too close when I take myself off into a corner.

  • Pointing to something.

I signal very well in these scenarios, so bites should be avoidable, as long as owners are familiar with the following:

  • Appeasement eyes

  • Freezing

  • Hiding

  • Lip lifting and baring teeth

  • Growling

  • Lunging

If you think you could offer me the home I need, please fill out an Adoption Enquiry Form. Please make sure you have read about all of my needs and our adoption policies before applying.
