About Me
I am a very sweet and loving boy and I enjoy my cuddles or bringing you a soft toy. My life has not always been easy, and due to my past and my poor health making me feel so vulnerable I have sometimes not made the best choices. My carers know what a loving boy I am, and want to find me my forever home with someone to love me for who I am, as well as respecting the boundaries I have.
I originally came to the Sanctuary in 2018 and I was adopted a few months later but I was returned in October 2022. My adopters really loved me but struggled to cope with behaviours I showed in the home, which my carers believe was caused by the pain I was in from my poorly ears as well as my history pror to coming to the Sanctuary.
When I came back to the sanctuary my carers worked hard to try and help my ears but in the end I needed surgery to relieve me from the pain it was causing me. Since then, my ears have been doing much better and with that my behaviour improved as I’m not in pain anymore.
As I’m getting older I’m a bit stiffer and slower than I used to be but I still have lots of life to live and love to give!! My carers say I snooze away a bit more than before and make sure I have comfy beds and big soft teddies to carry & cuddle up to!
Thankfully I really love being here at the Sanctuary and I have a place here for as long as I need and I know they will always be there to support me. As I haven’t had the best experiences in my previous homes I can struggle more in a home environment and need someone who truly understands me to support me and give me the love but also space that I need. I will only be going to a new home if it is definitely right for me as I am really happy here at the Sanctuary and I don’t want to leave unless it really is the perfect match with people who will take the time to understand and care for me in the ways I need <3
Home I am looking for…
Adult only home with only a few people living in the home
Adopter who is willing to follow my behaviour training & management
I don’t want to live with another dog but I do get on well with other calm dogs that will leave me alone so I could potentially have visiting dogs around but they must be calm dogs as I will snap if they are pushy/energetic and get in my space
I need experienced owners that have owned dogs before and understand dog behaviour.
Due to my history I can show conflicting signals so I need someone that will follow my behaviour management consistently so I know what to expect and feel safe.
I love people but I need to spend lots of time building a strong relationship with me to build my trust. Any new persons that will be around me need to be told of my behaviours and must ensure they follow my behaviour management.
To prevent distrupting my happy life at the Sanctuary anyone interested in me will have further checks and a home check done before being invited to meet me.
I am NOT a fan of car travel so I need a home where I will not be back and forth or in a car much at all! As a foster dog the Sanctuary can provide/ support any transport to the home and for vet visits for me <3
I need a secure garden in my new home
Behaviour & Health
I must be kept on a lead in public
I need to wear my muzzle vets/grooming and need careful handling
My new adopters would need to continue using positive reinforcement training and following my management so I can live a happy life feeling safe
I need to build strong relationships to feel truly safe so I need multiple meets with potential adopters over several weeks (my carers can advise further)
I need careful handling and understanding, my new people must advocate for me to ensure I am not put in situations I could react
I have some stiffness in my joints, I am on joint supplements and medications to help keep me comfortable and I will need to continue in my new home.
My coat needs regular grooming, as I am not a fan of this for parts I will need to continue using my regular groomer (BecTia) who has a grooming salon at the Sanctuary and knows all my behaviours and how to safely handle me.
Sometimes I can have a bit of a sensitive tummy so I am on a senior diet with mostly bland dry + wet food which works well for me
I am mostly deaf - For years I had nasty chronic ear infections with horrible resistant bacteria that caused me lots of pain! I ended up having surgery on both my ears over the years and this has resolved my ear issues so I am no longer in pain.
Things to Note
Eddie is looking for a Long-term Forever Foster Home.
Eddie is older now and has a few health issues along with his specific behaviour needs, we want to ensure he has a safe and comfortable future and receives any veterinary cares he needs.
As a foster dog we will cover all his veterinary costs and we are able to support fosterers with any vet visits both with transport, handling at the vets and anything else he needs. This means we are in a much better position to support both Eddie and his fosterers to ensure he has a happy future!
We know Eddie loves living here at the Sanctuary and has the option to stay with us but we know this loving boy could do well in a home and would love to enjoy the comforts of a home in his old age <3
