About Me
I came into the sanctuary when my owners left me with a nice family that looked after me while they were on holiday, but sadly my owners never came back for me…
I have been rehomed a few times since I cam to the Sanctuary but have been returned every time for different reasons, as you can imagine this made me trust people less and less. Therefore my next home must be the perfect one so I don’t have to worry about being left again.
I form really strong loving relationships with the people I make friends with but because I have had a few homes now I can struggle making friends intially as I am frustrated and don’t trust you until you take the time to show me that I can. My carers say for someone willing to take the chance on me I would be their once in a lifetime dogs as I’m such an intelligent, sweet and funny boy!
Once you are my friend and I feel safe with you I am one of the most loving dogs and just love having a cuddle with you! I can be very sensitive to how you are feeling as I’m very intelligent and love my people so much I listen in to every tiny cue you show. I have a few dedicated volunteer friends aswell as my carers and they all say just what an incredible dog I am and if they could they wish they could take me home. I love fiercley and remember those who have done the work to build my trust and become my friend even after years.
You may not believe my carers when they tell you but one of the ways I best form new relationships is if you reguarly sit outside my kennel, not talking, looking at me, trying to feed or touch me but by reading to me. We even have our own collection of books for our volunteers to do this with as I love it! I do take more of a liking to some people more than others right away but either way reading to me is the way I slowly grow to trust you, become familiar with how you sound, look and smell without any of the pressure! You can ask my hoomans, once you become my friend it is more than worth the effort as I have so much love to give <3
Home I am looking for…
Adult only home with only 1-2 people living in the home
Adopter who is willing to follow my behaviour training & management
Adopters will need to be committed to doing multiple meets each week to make friends with me. This would be over several weeks depending how I am doing, my carers can advise further.
I need a home with no regular visitors and a secure safe space that I can be shut away from any visitors/ work persons in the home.
I’m an active boy and need regular twice daily excercise minimum. I can find some things overstimulating so I prefer quieter walking times
As I can get ovestimulated at times I need a secure garden in my home.
I love adventures and trips out and just being with my favourite people!
I need a quiet good sized space in the home were I won’t be disturbed for when I get overstimulated. (Penned area/room, a crate is not the right thing for me when I’m feeling wound up)
Behaviour & Health
I need multiple regular meets with potential adopters over a several weeks.
My carers have trained me to walk well on a lead and I must be kept on a short lead in public
I am fully muzzle trained and need to wear my muzzle in public
My new adopters would need to continue using my positive reinforcement training and following my behaviour management
I have bitten in the past when resource guarding or when I have become overstimulated and re-directed. These behaviours can be safely managed but I need an adopter that will stick to my behaviour management
Sometimes I can get a mouth or jump up when I get overstimulated and get quite boisterous. My carers have done lots of training with me an
Although I walk well on lead with my training, I do get excited and I need a strong handler
Anyone wanting to adopt me must be willing to follow my training and behaviour management, including keep me on lead and muzzled in public spaces
I have a sensitive tummy and have to stay on sensitive food (AVA sensitive, Fish4Dogs etc)
Sometimes in spring I get seasonal alopecia on my sides, this does not affect me otherwise and there is no need for medication.
Things to Note
Reggie is available to Foster-to-Adopt
Sometimes dogs that come into our care may need some additional support while they settle into their new home, or they may have some veterinary treatment we are completing before they can be adopted or sometimes potential adopter needs support from our team before they are ready to commit. Foster to adopt is one way we try and set our dogs up for success in their new homes by making sure both they and their hopeful adopters are getting the support they need and allows a trial period before committing to adopting as well as reducing the time they are waiting in kennels.
We base everything on a individual dog & adopter basis and our team is happy to talk to you about what support we can offer and a timeline for adoption following a successful application.
